NEW ALBUM - SCHUBERT & DVOŘÁK

NEW ALBUM FROM THE DSCH – SHOSTAKOVICH ENSEMBLE: SCHUBERT & DVOŘÁK

Released on the prestigious Norwegian label LAWO Classics, the new album brings together Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro, Esther Hoppe, Lars Anders Tomter, Christian Poltéra and Tiago Pinto-Ribeiro in works by Schubert and Dvořák, as the Shostakovich Ensemble celebrates its 20th anniversary.

The DSCH – Shostakovich Ensemble presents a new international album featuring two masterpieces of Romantic chamber music: Franz Schubert’s Piano Quintet in A major, D. 667, “The Trout”, and Antonín Dvořák’s Piano Quartet No. 1 in D major, Op. 23.

Recorded in October 2025 at the Reitstadel in Neumarkt, Germany, the new album reflects the artistic identity of the DSCH – Shostakovich Ensemble, characterised by bringing together internationally renowned musicians and a close musical rapport developed over years of collaboration.

The choice of repertoire creates a dialogue between two expressions of European Romanticism: The Trout Quintet, one of the most celebrated works in the history of chamber music, and Dvořák’s first Piano Quartet, a masterpiece that remains insufficiently known and whose inclusion in this album seeks to contribute to its rediscovery. The two compositions reveal musical affinities, particularly in their melodic generosity, lyricism and spontaneity.

To mark the release, the prestigious British magazine The Strad published an interview with Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro, the Ensemble’s artistic director, exploring the new recording and his approach to chamber music, founded on mutual respect, trust, freedom and artistic responsibility.

Twenty Years of International Recognition

Founded by Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro in 2006, the year marking the centenary of Dmitri Shostakovich’s birth, the DSCH – Shostakovich Ensemble quickly established itself as an internationally recognised chamber music ensemble, bringing together leading soloists in a flexible formation.

Its discography began in 2018 with the world premiere recording of the complete chamber music for piano and strings by Shostakovich, released by Paraty/Harmonia Mundi, which achieved remarkable international acclaim.

The double album received numerous distinctions, including 5 Diapasons, the Opus d’Or, Luister 10, the highest rating from Crescendo magazine and the distinction of Album of the Year 2018 by Classique News, alongside enthusiastic reviews in leading publications such as Gramophone, The Guardian, Scherzo and Das Orchester.

In 2020, the Ensemble released a second album devoted to Beethoven’s Trios for piano, clarinet and cello, featuring Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro, Pascal Moraguès and Adrian Brendel. The recording was likewise acclaimed by the international press, receiving, among other distinctions, the maximum five-star rating from the French magazine Classica.

International Release and Anniversary Concert in Lisbon

The new album has been available on digital streaming platforms since 30 October 2026, with the international physical release scheduled for 20 November.

As part of its 20th anniversary celebrations, the DSCH – Shostakovich Ensemble will present a special concert at Teatro Thalia in Lisbon on 17 December 2026 at 9.00 pm, bringing together the five musicians featured on the recording to perform the same programme of works by Schubert and Dvořák.
