“Verão Clássico, the summer event par excellence in the Portuguese capital where it occupies the place of honor of classical music. It is worth mentioning the combination in Lisbon, in the space of ten days, of musicians of the highest order.”

In Expresso, 25.07.2020, by Ana Rocha

“Verão Clássico, resonated like a balm against the silence and isolation imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The ten days of Verão Clássico are an evidence of permanent work, a common desire to excel, a search for pleasure, excellence and complicity. The teachers, renowned soloists and sought-after masters, offered the 200 students a unique opportunity to improve their instrumental capicities. A fascinating experience for the audience and musicians, a liberating escape in this summer of all the challenges.”

Introduction by Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro, artistic and pedagogical director:

"Welcome to VERÃO CLÁSSICO 2021!

After the extraordinary 2020 edition, which, despite the great difficulties and restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, showed the strength and resilience of all those who organize and participate in VERÃO CLÁSSICO - with the presence of 200 musicians of more than 20 nationalities! -, the Festival and Academy returns in 2021 with renewed wishes for excellence and passion for music, knowledge and the sharing of humanist inspiration.

We hoped that by 2021 the pandemic was finally over but, unfortunately, it continues to accompany us and demands the utmost rigor and responsibility so that we can safely carry out VERÃO CLÁSSICO with the hope of quickly overcoming this tragic moment of our lives.

In 2021, for the first time, all the concerts of VERÃO CLÁSSICO Festival take place in the beautiful Picadeiro Real de Belém, of the Museu Nacional dos Coches, and the Masterclasses take place at the National Conservatory.

The 2021 VERÃO CLÁSSICO Festival presents daily concerts, between August 1st and 10th, with musical repertoire from the 18th to the 21st centuries: 4 MasterFest concerts, with the presence of internationally acclaimed musicians, as well as 4 concerts TalentFest, with the VERÃO CLÁSSICO Academy participants, already awarded nationally and internationally.

Simultaneously a Festival and an Academy, VERÃO CLÁSSICO 2021 has programmed more than 500 masterclasses/open lessons on technique and musical interpretation, guided by 12 musicians and professors of great international reputation, coming from some of the best orchestras and universities in the world. For these masterclasses, we receive 200 young musicians in Lisbon, of which 100 are Portuguese and 100 are foreigners from countries like Germany, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Korea, United States, Denmark, Spain, United States of America, France, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Romania and Ukraine.

This edition is highlighted by VERÃO CLÁSSICO debut of Elisabeth Leonskaja, one of the most celebrated pianists of our time, Marianna Shirinyan, multi award-winning pianist and Professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, and Stephan Picard, Professor at Berlin Higher School of Music “Hanns Eisler” and one of the most sought-after violinists and teachers today.

As usual, there are several returns to the VERÃO CLÁSSICO of world-class musicians who embody the spirit of the “musical family” that inspires the entire Festival and Academy: violinist Mihaela Martin, violist Miguel da Silva, cellists Gary Hoffman and Fayman Helmerson, double bassist Gunars Upatnieks, flutist Silvia Careddu, oboist Ramón Ortega Quero, clarinetist Pascal Moraguès, and singer Anna Samuil.

An extraordinary team of musicians and teachers that fills us with pride and, year after year, consolidates VERÃO CLÁSSICO as one of the most prestigious and sought-after Festivals and Academies on the international scene.

Many thanks to everyone who makes VERÃO CLASSICO possible and to the institutional partners and sponsors of this extraordinary music celebration.

I wish you all an excellent VERÃO CLÁSSICO!"
