INTRODUCTION

In 2025, the Verão Clássico concerts return to the Centro Cultural de Belém – the Festival’s “home” during its first five editions (2015–2019) – and to the Museu Nacional dos Coches.

Among the world-renowned musicians featured in the 11th edition of the Festival are German singers Anna Samuil and Werner Güra, American cellist Gary Hoffman, Ukrainian pianist Milana Chernyavska, Norwegian violist Lars Anders Tomter, Belgian clarinetist Annelien Van Wauwe, and Finnish double bassist Janne Saksala, soloist of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Opening Concert will take place on July 23, at 8:00 PM, at the Centro Cultural de Belém, featuring works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Max Bruch, Antonín Dvořák, and Ludwig van Beethoven.

There will also be two monographic concerts: the first dedicated to Franz Schubert, on July 26 at the CCB; the second, featuring works by Robert Schumann, on July 30 at the Museu Nacional dos Coches.

Between July 24 and August 1, six Talent Fest concerts will showcase award-winning young musicians selected for the Verão Clássico Academy 2025, presenting works by composers from the 18th to the 21st centuries.

The Closing Concert of the 11th Verão Clássico Festival is scheduled for August 2 at the Museu Nacional dos Coches, featuring, among others, Austrian violinist Eszter Haffner, Swiss cellist Christian Poltéra, and pianist Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro, the Festival’s artistic director. The program includes works by Mozart, Brahms, and Dvořák.

Founded in 2015 at the Centro Cultural de Belém by Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro, the Verão Clássico Festival is today regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious and sought-after music festivals and academies.

Since its first edition, Verão Clássico has complemented its concerts with hundreds of masterclasses – open lessons focusing on musical technique and interpretation – led by internationally renowned musicians and pedagogues. This edition features faculty from institutions such as the Berlin State Opera, the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía (Madrid), the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, and various conservatories and universities in Vienna, Munich, Oslo, Lucerne, Berlin, Graz, and Zurich.

For this 11th edition, around 200 young musicians were selected from hundreds of applications received from over 30 countries, including Germany, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, South Korea, Denmark, Spain, USA, Finland, France, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Mozambique, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Serbia, Sweden, Switzerland, and Turkey.

Over the past ten editions, Verão Clássico has welcomed elite artists of the classical music world, as well as over 1,500 young musicians, many of whom found in the Festival a springboard for their careers. Among them are Ukrainian violinist Dmytro Udovychenko (winner of the 2024 Queen Elisabeth Competition, Brussels), British pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason, German conductor Anna Handler, American violinist Claire Wells, Ukrainian pianist Roman Fediurko, and French flutist Luc Mangholz, now soloist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

Among the many Portuguese musicians who took part in previous editions and have gone on to successful careers are flutist Sónia Pais and clarinetist Telmo Costa (both soloists with the Gulbenkian Orchestra), oboist João Miguel Silva (soloist with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra), double bassist Rui Pedro Rodrigues (soloist with the Casa da Música Symphony Orchestra), and violist Sofia Silva Sousa (soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra).

The Verão Clássico Festival is organized by DSCH Associação Musical under the High Patronage of the President of the Portuguese Republic. Its main sponsor is the Millennium BCP Foundation, with institutional support from the Lisbon City Council, CCB, Museu Nacional dos Coches, and the Escola de Música do Conservatório Nacional.

In short, the 11th Verão Clássico Festival presents an exceptional program celebrating classical music with passion, talent, and excellence – from Lisbon to the world.
